Nike, Welsh GCSE'S Changes And Forex Scams

Welcome to the weekly recap of the podcast, where we talk about some of the topics that Steven spoke about during the stream.

This week we’ll be having a look at how Nike is making a big change to their sales strategy, how people try and scam people using Forex, as well as the new subjects being added to the welsh curriculum.

Remember if you’re wanting to catch the streams live, you can go over too  YouTube, or even follow us on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn where you’ll find announcements of whenever we go live!

Nike Ending Sales In Israel

Nike have recently announced that they are going to stop supplying stock to third party retailers in Israel. Now as a disclaimer, this 1000% not a BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) move or anything related to that.

Their plan is to essentially end supply to random retail stores that would usually stock Nike products, and instead drive all customers and traffic to Nike branded stores and to the Nike website. To be honest I think this is a great move. Nike shouldn’t lose any customers, in fact they’ll see sales go up as people will only be able to get their products direct.

Take Apple for example (Yes I know some stores still sell their stuff), but let’s be honest, nobody goes anywhere but Apple for one of their products and this somewhat is prove that this idea of cutting out the middle man works.

Forex Scams

Foreign exchange is a tricky one to talk about, you either have a good experience and make a lot of money. Or the complete opposite and you have a really bad time and lose all your money.

A big strategy, or rather scam, that ‘influencers’ promote on social media are these “get rich quick” courses where you, as a potential Forex investor, pay them a big sum of money so they can teach you how to make that back plus more. There have been instances of these courses being dodgy and scams as some people who have been caught up in it, get hooked by the fact they’d doubled there money on the first investment.

After a few months of buying and investing on the foreign exchange, mind you through the influencers own partnered website, the consumer will suddenly see a market crash and every single penny they’ve invested is gone. Usually you’d think “oh it’s a glitch, I’ll just contact support/the influencer and see if they’ll help. Nine times out of ten, the consumer is ghosted.

Stevens advice is essentially to invest in something you can control, like maybe your own business or a side project you’re doing and if something says “get rich quick” in the title, stay away!

Welsh GCSE'S

Over in the west, the Welsh are now getting a revised curriculum starting as of September next year (2022). The reason for this, according to the exam regulator “Qualifications Wales”, was to prepare students for an ‘ever-changing world’.

The Royal Society of Chemistry said “some qualifications don’t appropriately prepare students for A-Levels and other level 3 qualifications”, so now they’re asking students to make a decision at the age of 14 in order for kids to focus on subjects that’ll aid future options of desired work and study.

The curriculum is being split into 6 key areas: Expressive arts, Health and wellbeing, Humanities, Languages, Maths, Science and technology. Some of the subjects taught in these areas that are new are Engineering and Manufacturing, Sign Language, Film and digital media. Personally I believe these new subjects are good, as for example, Media, is a subject I wish was available to myself during high school.

Honestly I hope this change takes off and hopefully it gets adopted by the rest of the UK so younger generations can easily work out their passions with a new range of classes and topics.
